Food festivals in West Cork
Two events worth checking out in West Cork over the coming weeks:
The Taste of West Cork Food Festival which runs from September 14th - 17th. According to the programme of events, it doesn’t quite bring together the good and the great of the West Cork food scene, which is a pity, given the wealth of talent and great food produced in the area. All the same, there’s plenty to tickle the tastebuds and interest. Highlights include a field trip to the Gubbeen farm in Schull and an exhibition of John Minihan portrait photos of West Cork craft makers.
And who knows, perhaps the good and great are keeping low key about the fact that they’ll all be at the open air food and craft market on Sunday from 12 - 5?
Maybe it’s just me, but I think it’s likely the 30th Kinsale International Gourmet Festival 2006 in October will be a slightly less humble, slightly more Celtic Tiger-ish affair. Fishy - Fishy is notable by it’s absence from the line-up, (a little odd, given their prominant new location near the waterfront) and it’s a pity the Mad Hatter’s Taste of Kinsale is sold out, (I’d love to tour the town in the company of Alice & the Mad Hatter!) but it should be a good weekend of fun all the same.
